Who we are.
What we do.
Patrick Duncan is the founder of Bio-Cal Thoroughbreds, a data-driven bloodstock advisory focused on the selection of elite racehorses.
Born and raised in South Africa and now based in Sydney, he brings an international perspective alongside a technical understanding of the Thoroughbred as an athlete. Patrick is a graduate of Hartpury University (UK), holding a BSc (Hons) in Racehorse Performance & Rehabilitation, and combines hands-on experience with a structured, analytical approach.
His early career included time with respected trainers in Cape Town, as well as at Tweenhills Stud in the UK, providing exposure across racing, breeding and bloodstock sales environments. He has also worked alongside leading bloodstock agents, including James Bester, at major Australian yearling sales.
Alongside Bio-Cal Thoroughbreds, Patrick consults with Arioneo - a French company at the forefront of wearable technology for racehorses - supporting trainers and owners in translating equine performance and health data into practical, on-the-ground decisions.
Today, Patrick works with a select group of clients across major international sales, applying a disciplined process that integrates pedigree analysis, proprietary biomechanical assessment - derived from objective measurement and structural analysis - and traditional physical inspection. The objective is to substantiate investment decisions, introducing clarity and consistency to what is often a subjective selection process.
The philosophy is simple: reduce subjectivity where possible and make decisions grounded in evidence.
Bio-Cal Thoroughbreds was founded on the premise that in a market often driven by instinct, there is a clear advantage in precision, consistency and measured judgement.
